Program Mission:

Preparation of educational and technical qualified personnel in the field of marine biology and its contemporary applications that able to respond to labor market requirement through the provision of advanced educational and research activities to serve the community.

This program is designed to develop the students’ awareness of the role of marine Biology in contemporary applications, together with the skills of logical thought and a flexibility of mind that will help them continue their personal development throughout their subsequent career. The program lays emphasis on the fundamentals of the subject, whilst offering students a wide range of final year options that are intended to stimulate the versatility, knowledge and skills that employers look for in a marine Biology graduate.

Program Goals:

1. Provide students with ahigh quality and intellectually stimulating experience of learning in a supportive environment.
2. Provide students with a sound background in all aspects of marine sciences and allow students to further develop some degree of specialization within their field of choice.
3. Provide students with opportunities for shared multi-disciplinary learning in marine sciences
4. Develop students' critical and analytical problem-solving abilities in relation to the marine sciences with emphasis on marine biology.
5. Develop students intellectual, practical and fieldwork skills in the collection, analysis, interpretation and understanding of oceanographic data
6. Develop students' abilities of observation, analysis and understanding in order that students can make decisions with appropriate acknowledgement of uncertainties
7. Enhance students’ interpersonal skills, in a wide range of contexts.
8. Provide students with a sound basis for a successful career as professional oceanographers or in a wide range of other contexts
9. Provide students with a sound background and suitable qualification that would enable students to proceed to a more specialist higher degree at the M.Sc. or Ph.D. levels.
10. Enable students to engage with life-long learning, study and enquiry, and to appreciate the value of education and research to society.
